National Screen Industry Training Programme

Kahurangi Toi Ātea is the name gifted to the National Screen Industry Training Programme by Takitimu. It provides a rich context of the heavenly cloak (the stars) that wraps around us and has provided inspiration for storytelling for generations.

Kahurangi Toi Ātea is an industry led programme and provides participants with the opportunity to learn specific departmental skills from professionals and apply these on set of a large scale production.

 

 

TRAINING PROGRAMME PROCESS

1. APPLY

2. Contact and Webinar

Successful applicants will be notified of their application on  4 October 2024. 

A webinar will take place on Wednesday 9 October at 7.00pm for all participants

Successful applicants will be notified of their selection for the Classroom Learning on 4 October 2024. 

3. CLASSROOM LEARNING

On completion of the Classroom Learning, the Course Experts will select who will proceed onto the film production HOLY DAYS to complete their Certificate in Screen Craft Skills. Successful participants will be notified on 25 October 2024.

4. WORKPLACE LEARNING

There are 21 places available for trainees to work on the production HOLY DAYS as a crew member. If you are selected, you will be contracted by the production HOLY DAYS to work set days/weeks during prep, shoot and wrap. You will be paid for the work that you do on the production. 

TRAINING PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

Build your screen knowledge and practical skills

Work alongside industry professionals in a classroom learning (preparation) environment to build both knowledge and practical skills in your selected course strand.

Invest in a career in the screen industry

Participating in Kahurangi Toi Ātea is an investment into building a career in the screen industry. All participants will be paid for their work based placement.

Develop experience on set and be mentored

All tauira (participants) will be supported to ensure that the on set experience is positive. All assessments will be work based (apply)and Tauira will be guided as required.

THE STRANDS

There are many types of roles on a film or TV set. There is something for every personality and skill set!

A production is broken down into five subject areas or strands: Art, Logistics, Post, Production and Technical. Four of the five strands are available for the 2024 Kahurangi Toi Ātea, National Screen Industry Training Programme.
